'gadget' 135 - StarTech SATDOCK U3S - Hard drive transfers for the rest of us Video Clips. Duration : 5.80 Mins.

www.TheTechStop.net http The SuperSpeed SATDOCK U3S from StarTech is a USB 3.0 to SATA universal hard drive docking station. Weighing less than a pound and about half the size of a paperback book, the Dock accepts both 2.5" and 3.5" bare SATA drives. Out of the box, the StarTech Dock contains all the pieces you need to get up and running in minutes. StarTech has included three different plug adapters with an auto-switching power supply, making it compatible with most power systems worldwide. The StarTech Dock uses a Lucidport Chipset to bridge the USB 3.0 and SATA interfaces. The Dock port supports a Maximum transfer rate of 5 Gbps when connected to a USB 3.0 port and 488Mbps when connected to a USB 2.0 port. The Dock is compatible with SATA Revisions 1, 2 and 3, though the effective transfer rate is limited to the top speed of SATA 2. The dock uses a "trap door" style cover that folds out of the way when a 3.5" hard drive is inserted into the dock. A smaller slot allows 2.5" drives to be inserted into the same mechanism without tripping the trap door. In either case, the inserted drive is solid and stable in the dock until the user presses an eject button on the right side of the unit. In our tests, using a Solid State Flash drive, transfers though the StarTeck Dock averaged 243.15MB/s, or 1.95Gbps, when connected to a USB 3.0 port. That compares to the same drive transfering data at 244MB/s over a SATA interface and a measly 29MB/s over USB 2.0. To put that speed into ...
