The shop had already replaced the spark plugs, and cleaned the injectors, but the problem was still present. There were no misfire codes stored in memory, and the vehicle on-board diagnostics did not provide misfire counters in the data stream. This vehicle was equipped with a coil-on-plug system, which made it difficult to hook up an engine analyzer to view secondary patterns. There are some adapters in the field, that require the removal of all the coils, and others that provide induction adaptors to pick-up secondary patterns. The design of the engine in this van, makes this a very hard task to perform. Out here in the real world, time is money! When I arrived at the shop, I started the engine and fully warmed it up. After about a 20 minute warm-up period, I loaded the engine by power braking it in drive. You could feel an intermittent miss at times, but it only lasted under the 100 milli Seconds time zone. I'm sure the garage could have fixed this problem by replacing all of the ignition coils, but at 80 dollars a pop, they were not cheap. The idea here was to keep the operating costs low, without playing a guessing game. What I needed to do was to put together a game plan, that could get me in and out of ...
